Dean Burke is a paddler, artist and environmental steward from Tacoma, WA. He has appeared on many national shows and platforms like TED, NPR’s THE WILD, Ocean Culture Life and much more. He is the co-founder of the race SEVENTY48 and in 2017 completed Stage One of R2AK on a Stand-Up Paddleboard. He has paddled the much of entire lower two-thirds of the Salish Sea by both Stand Up and Traditional (aka: “Prone”) Paddleboards, having collectively paddled thousands of miles from Olympia to Victoria, the San Juans and Vancouver BC.
Dean’s storytelling and compelling photography help amplify the importance of clean shoreline access to clean water by bringing the audience deep into stories of experiences that can reshape an individual. He will be speaking at the Wooden Boat Festival in a presentation called “Healing Waters” and talking about how clean access to the sea changes lives– an important topic in today’s age when urban density and shorelines often share challenges in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
